How To (Finally) Write That First Post

The one and only step that actually matters

Just minutes ago I was putting away the popcorn maker after family movie night and wondering whether the lid needed to be washed a second time.

It doesn’t need to be washed again. I don’t want to wash it again. I want to put it away and get on with my life.

But the idea seemed so tantalizing in the moment. Why?

Because I was avoiding sitting down to write.

Pro Tip: If you’ve been meaning to clean out the garage / organize your pantry / declaw the cat, just try to do some writing! You’ll get that project done in no time.

When we have deep work to do, everything else in the world suddenly seems interesting and urgent.

It’s especially hard when you’re just getting started.

The first of anything we create comes with a lot of pressure.

The first book you write. The first video you shoot. The first post to a new blog. 😉

We want to come out of the gate swinging. We want to impress people. We want instant bestseller award-winning head-turning TV-show-talking success right from the start.

We convince ourselves that if our first isn’t amazing, no one will ever take a look at what comes after.

But that’s the beauty of getting the first over with. You then get to make the second. You get another chance. And then another. And another.

So relax a little, and hit send or publish or save or whatever will get your first out there.

The only way to start is to start. So do it now!

Then, begin on the next.

We can’t wait to see what you come up with.
